History

It all started  in 1952 when Leo Pelds was taking his first mechanical engineering classes at Iowa State College.  On the first day,  the instructor had asked the class to draw, with tiresome detail, the thread of a screw. 

At the very moment the instructor had declared, “Get used to doing this.  This is what you will be doing the rest of your life,” Leo had glanced out the window only to spot a Land Surveying class  very apparently enjoying the fine fall day.  Feeling the need to be outdoors,  he switched curriculums.  From then on, it was all Civil Engineering, with Land Surveying to boot. 

Having served as City Engineer for the City of Urbandale, Iowa and having worked also in the private sector, Aivars Leo Pelds set out to work on his own in 1968, when he established A. Leo Pelds Engineering Company.  Since then, the firm has served as a Land Surveying and Civil Engineering Consultant for clients that have included federal, state, and municipal entities, as well private developers and landowners.  For more than 40 years, the approach has been the simple; „Deliver on the promise.  Nothing less will do.”

A. Leo Pelds Engineering Company continues to provided Civil Engineering consulting and Land Surveying services throughout Iowa and in Missouri, Nebraska, Michigan, Indiana, Georgia,  Illinois and South Dakota.  Company ownership has remained within family lines, with three of Leo’s four children taking on the role of ownership and management in recent years.
